Children Deprived of Parental Care
Children around the world are often raised outside of a home environment and without the care of either biological or adopted parents. Without a parent as a natural advocate and protector, these children are particularly vulnerable.
Every child who is temporarily or permanently deprived of his or her family environment is entitled to special protection and assistance provided by the state. Children may be placed in institutions such as orphanages, group homes, foster family homes, relative placements, hospitals or other institutions charged with their care. Through these alternative care settings, the government must ensure to the maximum extent possible the survival and development of the child.
Ironically, these placements are often harmful to children. Many children face grossly substandard and over-crowded facilities, inadequate and at times inhumane care, physical and sexual abuse, cruel and degrading treatment, and life-threatening deprivation. Even in some institutions that are clean and provide adequate food, staff neglect children; babies are left to lie alone in cribs or small beds with no stimulation, play, or adult attention; adolescents are not provided the guidance and care needed to prepare for adulthood. Children and youth are often denied contact with extended family members and communities. Educational opportunities are frequently lacking and medical care abysmal. Denied the help and care of a natural family, many of these children and youth are further disadvantaged by systems that perpetuate abuse and neglect.
Human Rights Watch investigates the situation of children deprived of their family environment and seeks to make significant changes in the way children deprived of parental care are treated throughout the world.

Midget Queen
midget's name is karen ng,19. You can only call me shortie if ya name is tallie. I might be a midget but I'm no pushover and that's what make me a queen. My obsessions consists of shoes, bags, coats, great food. Currently i am addicted to peanut chocolates and coffee bean chocolates from Candy Empire and almond crunchy dark chocolate from Corduroy Candy. My primary interests are fashion, food, music. I am constantly looking for great food and probably the reason why i gained 5kgs and only lost 2. I hate writing emo entries and the girliest part of me is probably loving shopping for shoes (though i can only go on for max 2hrs) and have a great liking in rich and real good chocolates. maybe liking bubbles too coz looking at them gives people hopes. I think eating yucky food is so pointless like ieat said, " do not waste your calories on yucky food". My favourite colors are green, purple, brown and white. Which of these colors i prefer depends very much on my mood and the weather at that time.
People who u will see often on my blog:
This is my honeybiscuit nephew, Jacob.
This is tallie, Juan. Which i think our friendship is more of brotherhood than sisterhood.
This is my partner for good food hunt, Tang(though he would prefer people to call him Handsome.) Who gained more weight than me.
This is my grandpa who escaped to Australia from me as he failed to get my krispy kremes donuts, Andrew.
"don't... ...waste calories on yucky food ...wear what the whole world is wearing ...waste time watching movies that are not worth it at all ...listen to songs by artistes with zero singing talent "

Tokyo the expensive city
i will do a little summary on japan.
Duration: 12 days Expenses include air ticket: S$2951 Favourite city: Sapporo of Hokkaido Least favourite city: Tokyo Duration of travel from Kyoto to Sapporo: 14 hours Number of train change from Kyoto to Sapporo: 4. Kyoto- Tokyo, Tokyo-Hachinohe, Hachinohe- Hakodate, Hakodate- Sapporo Favourite Place: Shiroi Koibito Park at Sapporo oh and Daimaru. Things we did to save money( accidentally or not): #1 buying the junior 2 day passport for disneyland and disneysea #2 buying child ticket for the disney resort train #3 when took the Nozomi train that is not cover in the JR pass, we sneaked out of the station successfully when the train officers were talking to some passengers ( thats S$150plus per pax) #4 When the bathroom in Kyoto accommodation is coin-operated, we brought in 3 bottles of water to bathe instead of paying 100yen for 15mins of water.HAHAHAHAHAHHA #5 buying 1 day subway pass for child in Sapporo and Kyoto #6 i pulled Tang into the Shiroi Koibito Park museum at Sapporo not knowing that we need to pay 1200yen per person as admission fee. Tang only told me there IS admission fee that we need to pay after we came out. #7 koping the transparent umbrella from Sapporo Hotel (300yen) #8 the huge fried rice we ordered in Asahikawa that they didnt charge us for it 900yen #9 the plate of yakitori we ordered in tokyo that they didnt charge us for it 500yen.
let me start with tokyo. Tokyo sucks. Warm, Humid and their bloody station has no elevators and stupid Tokyo station so damn big and disorganised wtf wtf
i didnt try krispykremes here because it doesnt look very good here in japan. but very long queues all the same.
This is the place where we had our first ramen in japan. Very rich pork broth soup that tasted very well with lots of seame seeds. i didnt have the picture with me which is in my handphone which i left it in the hotel in hakodate T___________T and waiting for them to send it back to me now.
There shibuya 109.
its very big and crowded like our orchard road here where teenagers like to dress up as ah lians and ah bengs. if you took a wrong turn u might end up at a district where there are love hotels all those zup zup places wtf.
Tokyo do have nice bakeries. When i was there i thought they were the best i realised i was wrong when i reached kyoto and hokkaido.
i taste test them and when i reached kyoto and hokkaido and tried theirs. I realised the pasteries and breads in tokyo put more effort on the appearnace rather than the taste. all bakeries in japan baked their breads so beautifully but why didnt we have that in singapore?? all these bakeries at tokyo food fair.
We woke up at 4am and headed over to Tsukiji Fish Market the next day. in japan at 4am it is already as bright as when its 7.30am in Singapore.
freaking damn huge fishes.
freaking big squids.
octopus that are still swimming.
oysters bigger than my palm.
strange looking stuff that look horribly like to hearts.
spine of a fish that looked very strong.
It took a combined strength of two men to cut up one fish.
The sword.
Look at that spinal cord.
actually we didnt went there early enough. if not,we would have able to see the Tuna Auction Area in action T_________T We wanted to try their ultra fresh seafood so we went to the streets of eatries in the market area.
and we decided on this super long queue place called The Big Sushi. we waited for 40mins for it. I told Tang it better be good. And it better be. Its bloody the most expensive meal in our Japan trip.
I ordered a set of 7 sushis, plus egg roll and miso soup for 2100yen. Tang ordered the premium 7+1 sushi of his choice plus egg roll and miso soup for 3700 yen.
The sushi here were certainly very fresh. Even the sea urchin sushi that i hate tasted surprising ok for me. The unagi here was very soft and crumbles in your mouth. The chef is very friendly though i only said "sumi mase" to him for the bill.and laughed at me because i didnt know how to continue from there. HAHAHAHAHAH
The shop is so popular, queues are so long, people queuing up could only watch wistfully at us eating HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
The streets near Tsukiji Market has alot of stuff too, selling fishcakes, nuts, breads, fruits etc etc.
where we bought very nice breads. though doesnt look so HAHAHAHA
thats all for now lah. very tired.
Disneyland and Disneysea next!HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHHA
